PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP): MY REGENERATIVE APPROACH TO SKIN AND HAIR RESTORATION

Why I use a closed PRP system, how it supports hair transplant results, and why combining injections with microneedling matters.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used in medicine for many years, but in aesthetics and hair restoration it has evolved significantly. What hasn’t changed is the principle: using your body’s own healing factors to stimulate repair, regeneration, and growth.

REGENERATE NATURALLY.

In my clinic at Moreton Aesthetics, PRP remains one of the most versatile regenerative treatments I offer. I use it for both skin rejuvenation and hair restoration, and increasingly as a supportive treatment before and after hair transplant surgery.

One important difference in my approach is that I use a closed PRP system (Cellenis® PRP), and that choice is deliberate.

What Is PRP?

PRP is created by taking a small sample of your blood and processing it to concentrate platelets and growth factors. These growth factors play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration.

When introduced back into the skin or scalp, PRP can stimulate:

  • Collagen production

  • Tissue repair

  • Improved blood supply

  • Cellular regeneration

  • Hair follicle stimulation

  • Wound healing processes

Because it comes from your own body, the risk of allergy or rejection is extremely low.

Why I Use a Closed System (Cellenis® PRP)

Not all PRP systems are the same. The way blood is processed matters significantly for both safety and quality.

I use the system developed by Cellenis because it is a closed, sterile system, meaning the blood is never exposed to the external environment during preparation.

This is important for several reasons:

  • Reduced contamination risk

  • Consistent platelet concentration

  • Higher purity of plasma

  • Improved safety profile

  • More predictable clinical results

In regenerative medicine, quality matters. A well-prepared PRP sample is more likely to produce meaningful outcomes.

How PRP Works for Skin

In facial aesthetics, PRP acts as a biological stimulator rather than a filler.

It can improve:

  • Skin texture

  • Fine lines

  • Elasticity

  • Hydration

  • Under-eye quality

  • Acne scarring

  • Overall skin vitality

Results develop gradually as collagen and tissue repair processes are activated.

Patients often notice that their skin simply looks healthier and more radiant.

How I Deliver PRP: Injections and Microneedling

I don’t rely on a single delivery method. Instead, I often combine precise injections with microneedling infusion, because they work in complementary ways.

Injection PRP

Injecting PRP allows me to place growth factors exactly where they are needed, such as:

  • Under the eyes

  • Areas of volume loss

  • Fine lines

  • Scalp for hair thinning

This provides targeted stimulation at deeper tissue levels.

Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin, allowing PRP to penetrate more widely across the surface.

This approach is particularly useful for:

  • Overall skin rejuvenation

  • Texture improvement

  • Acne scarring

  • Fine lines

  • Skin quality enhancement

Combining both methods can enhance outcomes because we treat both depth and surface layers.

PRP for Hair Loss and Hair Thinning

PRP has become an increasingly popular treatment for patients experiencing hair thinning or early hair loss.

It works by:

  • Stimulating dormant follicles

  • Improving scalp blood supply

  • Supporting follicle health

  • Extending the growth phase of hair

Patients often notice reduced shedding first, followed by gradual thickening.

PRP Before and After Hair Transplant Surgery

One area where PRP is particularly valuable is around the time of hair transplant procedures.

Before Transplant

PRP can help:

  • Improve scalp health

  • Enhance blood supply

  • Strengthen existing follicles

  • Prepare tissue for surgery

Creating a healthier scalp environment may support graft survival.

After Transplant

Post-transplant PRP can:

  • Accelerate healing

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Support graft integration

  • Encourage earlier growth

  • Improve hair density outcomes

Many hair surgeons now recommend PRP as part of a comprehensive transplant journey.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

I often recommend PRP for patients who want:

  • Natural regenerative treatments

  • Skin quality improvement

  • Under-eye rejuvenation

  • Hair thinning support

  • Pre- or post-transplant optimisation

  • Preventative ageing approaches

Because it uses your own biology, it suits patients who prefer more natural treatment pathways.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

PRP works cumulatively. I typically recommend:

  • A course of 3 sessions

  • Spaced about 4–6 weeks apart

Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months help sustain results depending on goals and the treatment area.

Hair treatments often benefit from more consistent maintenance.

What Results Can You Expect?

Results are gradual and natural. Patients often notice:

  • Healthier skin tone

  • Improved texture

  • Brighter under-eyes

  • Reduced hair shedding

  • Increased hair thickness over time

  • Better healing after procedures

PRP is not an instant transformation treatment — it’s a biological improvement process.

My Clinical Perspective

One of the reasons I continue to use PRP is its versatility. It works across skin, hair, and regenerative medicine, and it combines easily with other treatments.

Most importantly, it supports long-term tissue health, not just short-term cosmetic change.

Using a high-quality closed system allows me to deliver this treatment with greater confidence in both safety and outcomes.

Considering PRP?

If you’re interested in skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, or supporting results around a hair transplant, a consultation will help determine whether PRP is right for you.

Sometimes the most powerful treatments are the ones that use your body’s own regenerative potential.
