COSMELAN®

Cosmelan® Pigmentation Treatment at Moreton Aesthetics

At Moreton Aesthetics, we offer the advanced Cosmelan® depigmentation treatment for clients seeking a proven solution to stubborn pigmentation, melasma, sun damage and uneven skin tone.

Trusted worldwide for its effectiveness, Cosmelan® helps to restore a clearer, more luminous complexion with minimal intervention and long-lasting results.

What is Cosmelan®?

Cosmelan® is a professional depigmentation treatment designed to target and reduce excessive pigmentation caused by melanin overproduction. It works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin synthesis — regulating pigment formation and preventing new dark spots from developing. This multi-step system is both corrective and preventive, making it a comprehensive solution for those with hyperpigmentation concerns.

Who is Cosmelan® Suitable For?

Cosmelan® is suitable for most skin types and tones, including darker complexions which may be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It’s particularly effective for treating:

  • Melasma

  • Age spots

  • Sun damage

  • Post-acne pigmentation

  • Uneven skin tone

A full consultation is required at our clinic to assess suitability, and we always recommend a personalised approach to ensure the best possible outcome.

Where Can Cosmelan® be Used?

Cosmelan® is most commonly used on the face, where pigmentation issues tend to be most visible. However, it can also be used on other areas affected by sun exposure or hormonal changes, including the neck, chest, hands, and back.

What Are Cosmelan® Results Like?

Cosmelan® delivers significant improvement in the appearance of pigmentation. Many clients notice a brighter, clearer and more even skin tone. The results are progressive and continue to improve over several weeks, making it one of the most effective professional treatments for melasma and stubborn dark spots.

What Happens During Cosmelan® Treatment?

Cosmelan® is a two-phase treatment that combines an in-clinic procedure with a prescribed homecare routine.

Phase 1 – In-clinic mask application:

The treatment begins with a thorough skin cleanse, followed by the application of the Cosmelan® 1 mask. This is a thick, brown mask that remains on the skin for several hours (typically 8–12), depending on your skin type. You will leave the clinic with the mask still on and be given clear instructions on how and when to remove it at home.

Phase 2 – Home maintenance regime:

After removing the mask, you will begin using the Cosmelan® 2 maintenance cream as part of a strict homecare routine for several weeks. This phase is crucial to reinforce the treatment results and prevent pigmentation from returning. You will be given full guidance and support throughout the process.

How Many Session Will I Need?

In most cases, only one in-clinic session is required, followed by consistent use of the at-home Cosmelan® 2 products. However, ongoing maintenance and occasional repeat treatments may be advised depending on your skin type and the severity of pigmentation.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Initial improvements can often be seen within the first week after the mask is removed, with progressive brightening and fading of dark spots over 4 to 6 weeks. Optimal results typically appear after 4 to 8 weeks when the full cycle of skin regeneration is complete.

What is the Downtime?

You can expect redness, peeling, flaking and dryness during the first 7–10 days following treatment, particularly in the first 3 to 5 days. These effects are normal and indicate that the skin is renewing. It’s important to follow aftercare instructions carefully and avoid sun exposure to support recovery.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Side effects are generally mild and temporary, and may include:

  • Redness

  • Dryness

  • Peeling or flaking

  • Mild itching or tightness

These are part of the skin renewal process and usually resolve within the first week. We will advise on how to care for your skin during this phase to minimise discomfort.

How Long Does Cosmelan® Treatment Results Last?

With proper skincare and sun protection, the results of Cosmelan® can last for many months, and in some cases, over a year. Continued use of Cosmelan® 2 cream at home is essential to maintain results and prevent recurrence.

Do I Need Maintenance Sessions and After How Long?

Most clients benefit from ongoing use of the Cosmelan® 2 cream for up to 6 months post-treatment. In cases of chronic melasma or recurring pigmentation, a maintenance session may be recommended annually. We will assess your progress during follow-up appointments and advise accordingly.
