Enlarged pores are one of the most common concerns I see in clinic, and often one of the most frustrating for patients. Many people feel they have tried everything – acids, retinol, pore-tightening serums – yet their pores still appear visible.

The reality is that while skincare is important, enlarged pores cannot be fully corrected with skincare alone. To understand why, we need to look at what actually causes pores to appear enlarged in the first place.
At Moreton Aesthetics, my approach is always to treat the skin structurally as well as superficially.
What Causes Enlarged Pores?
First, let's rememeber this: pores are a normal part of healthy skin.
Pores become more noticeable for several reasons:
Excess oil production stretching the pore lining
Loss of collagen and elasticity around the pore
Sun damage and ageing
Congestion and irregular skin turnover
As collagen declines, the skin supporting the pore becomes weaker, allowing pores to appear larger and more visible.
Why Skincare Alone Has Its Limits
Medical-grade skincare can significantly improve congestion, oil control and surface texture, but it cannot fully restore lost collagen.
This is why pores may look temporarily smoother with good products, yet quickly return once skincare alone reaches its limit.

SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser
The SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser gently exfoliates the skin while cleansing, helping to smooth texture and prevent dead skin cells from accumulating around pores.

However, retinol must be introduced carefully to avoid irritation, which can worsen pore appearance if the skin barrier is compromised.
